Food Hygiene
Introduction | >Next
The Food Hygiene Program is designed to ensure that facilities regulated by the Orange County Health Department serve food, beverages, and snacks in a safe and sanitary manner and minimize the occurrence of food related illness. There are three state agencies that license and regulate food service facilities.
- Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR) - inspects restaurants
- Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (DACS) - inspects grocery stores and food outlets
- Department of Health (DOH)
The DOH regulates food service establishments as defined under Chapter 64E-11 of the Florida Statutes. These include:
- Assisted Living Facilities
- Nursing Homes and Hospitals
- Schools - (Public and Private)
- Civic and Fraternal Organizations
- Theatre Concessions
- Group Residential Facilities
- Bars and Lounges that do not prepare food
- Foster Homes
- Day Care Facilities
- Summer Feeding Sites
- Other limited facilities not regulated by DBPR or DACS
