Hurricane Season
This is the time of the year when we begin to wonder, once again, if we will be affected by a hurricane.
Although the official Atlantic Hurricane Seasonal Outlook issued by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) Climate Prediction Center has not yet been released, (typically, these are issued in May) predictions for the 2011 season from other reliable sources indicate the 2011 season could be another very active one, as 2010 was.
When the season was over last year, we were able to look back and see that NOAA's forecasters accurately predicted that the 2010 hurricane season would be one of the most active ever. In fact, 2010 was the third most active hurricane season on record. Luckily, none of the 12 named hurricanes made landfall on the United States shores.
The preliminary predictions suggest that we are very possibly looking at another intense hurricane season and underscores the importance of having a complete hurricane preparedness plan before the season starts.
Resources for hurricane preparedness, including easy-to-follow step-by-step instructions for creating a plan (for family or business) can be found by visiting the Orange County Health Department web site at: www.orchd.com. Under "General Health Services" on the left side of the page, click on "Emergency Operations", and once there, you will find links for FloridaDisaster.org,"Ready", and others under the "Resources" heading on the right side of the page.
Be Safe....Be Prepared.
